Siegner and Company recently completed a painting

Siegner and Company recently completed a painting refresh at the @uoregon’s Cottrell House. Built in 1950, the Cottrell House was designed by renowned architect John Yeon for the noted orthopedic surgeon, filmmaker and adventurer, George Cottrell. With its rich heritage and architectural significance, this project demanded nothing less than our team’s highest standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Although uncommon in modern practices, we selected an oil-based paint, aligning with the timeless elegance of the design of the Cottrell House. Collaborating with @millerpaint, we conducted thorough testing to ensure the perfect match and treatment for the structure.

As contractors, we often proudly declare, "I paint

As contractors, we often proudly declare, "I painted that!" It's our way of leaving a mark on the world, one project at a time.

But have you ever wondered who painted one of the most iconic figures in American history, George Washington? The credit goes to the talented Gilbert Stuart. Back in the late 1700s and 1800s, painters like Stuart worked with materials that were a lot simpler yet incredibly effective. Their paints were primarily made from linseed oil and raw pigments.

Linseed oil, derived from pressing flax seeds, served as the base. By boiling it, painters could make the oil more durable and quick-drying. A touch of a drying agent and some powdered pigments - all entirely natural - were added to the mix. No solvents, binders, or synthetic emulsifiers were needed. Just pure, simple ingredients to create masterpieces.

Today, we draw inspiration from this historical dedication to craftsmanship. While our tools and materials have evolved, our commitment to quality and the environment echoes the traditions of the past. This President's Day, let's honor the blend of leadership, artistry and craftsmanship that shapes our history and our present. Here's to creating our own legacies, one project at a time.

Investment in the workforce never stops! Coaching never stops! Teaching never stops! Siegner and Company strongly believes that our ability to teach, coach, and invest in the learning of others, clearly defines our ability to shape our future as a contributor to the construction industry.

We recently put the finishing touches on our new training room. This project began with a conversation involving field and office personnel, as part of the design, so that we could provide a space for teaching of site supervisors, lead painters, onboarding of new employees, and as a learning space for every company employee to enjoy! From finish selection to installation, there was a collaborative appoach to sequence, installation, and quality control. The end result is a room equipped with a/v, dry-erase boards, fabric panels, and a durable floor finish.

The floor coating installed was @rustoleum High Performance Seal-Krete Epoxy system applied at 16 mils with a silica additive for slip-resistance and polyaspartic clear finish coat. This floor coating has to be installed with a lot of planning and forthought, to eliminate quality concerns and ensure a uniform application. Similar floor coatings are a popular choice in school restrooms, kitchens, and other areas where self-leveling, low odor, and durability are important.

After the project was substantially completed, our team noticed that there was a substantial amount of sound reflection. This was going to be a concern, considering the rooms use as a teaching environment. In order to be sucessful in learning, we would need to reduce the sound. To do this, we installed 1" FabriTrak Systems Inc. with #terracore poly infill and stretched fabric for the final finished look. Terracore is manufactured without water and consists of 80% post-consumer recyled content.

Yesterday we completed our annnual company planning meeting. Though this year will be our 33 year anniversary, planning as a leadership group is one of the most important things we look forward to as a group. What’s broken, missing, confusing and working is a great way to address the systems that need help or need to be celebrated.

It was also a chance for us to utilize McMenamins Edgefield’s great meeting rooms. We have performed many years of maintenance painting at edgefield and it is always a treat to spend time there. Even if we are planning the future of our company.

There is so much to be thankful for at Siegner and Company. 2023 marked a year of tremendous growth and transformation for us. After 31 years in Portland, we decided to embark on an exciting new journey by relocating to Milwaukie. This move allowed us to significantly expand our operations, and we couldn't have done it without the incredible support of our dedicated team members, valued clients, trusted vendors, invaluable contacts, peer groups, business group members, and friends.

We firmly believe that true growth is a collective effort, and we are deeply thankful for all those who played a part in our journey. The leadership at Siegner has never been stronger, and while we miss all of the amazing individuals who helped us reach this milestone, we are thrilled about the exciting new chapter that awaits us. 🥽 Step 1: Environmental Control
To ensure top-notch results, we contained the work area with temporary tenting, safeguarding against moisture and irregular temperatures.

🔧 Step 2: Power-Tool Application
Using wire-wheel power tools (SP 3), we skillfully prepared all welded and un-primed steel, removing surface rust and creating the perfect canvas for coating adherence.

🧼 Step 3: Solvent Cleaning
Every welded area underwent solvent cleaning (SP 1) to eliminate oils, grease, dirt, and debris created during power-tool cleaning, setting the stage for flawless coating application.
🖌️ Step 4: Rust-Inhibitive Epoxy Primer
With meticulous attention, we applied a coat of rust-inhibitive epoxy primer using brush and roll methods, ensuring an even, durable foundation for the coatings to follow.

A great coating system hinges on two key elements: even application and impeccable adherence. Our commitment to top-notch surface preparation and primer application ensures that we deliver the longevity and quality that the design team expects.
